In todayโs third place game, the Netherlands went to battle against Great Britain. The first half was very evenly matched, with each team able to counter the otherโs offensive attacks effectively. Only Great Britain was able to get on the scoreboard, with Michael Barker scoring in the fourth minute. Michael Barker then got a yellow card six minutes later. Great Britainโs Sean Highdale was given a yellow in the twenty-third minute. Guido Floors got a yellow for the Netherlands in the twenty-third minute.
The pace of the game changed, and Netherlands had a slight upper hand in the second half. Emyle Rudder quickly got a yellow only two minutes in. Eight minutes in, Sean Highdale was given his second yellow and sent off. Midway through the half, Michael Barker converted a penalty kick following a yellow given to the Netherlandโs goalkeeper George van Altena. This put Great Britain up 0 โ 2 despite being down a man. Four minutes later, Great Britainโs goalkeeper Giles Moore was given a yellow card. Jeroen Saedt scored the Netherlandโs first goal nine minutes later. With three minutes left, Dutch captain Lars Conijn scored the equalizer to make the score 2 โ 2. This effectively sent the game into extra time.
After a short break, players were back on the pitch. Three minutes in, James Blackwell was given a red card. This put Great Britain down two players. Minnie De Vos converted the Netherlandโs penalty kick attempt to give the Dutch the lead. Peter Cooij was given a yellow for the Netherlands in the seventy-fourth minutes. Despite several good attempts, Great Britain were unable to answer back and the game ended a few minutes later 3 โ 2 in favor of the Dutch.
