Iran have too much for young German side

Iran beat Germany in the opening Group C match 7-1. Mehdi Jamali was the main difference between the two sides. He scored four goals over the hour and spent time in every position of the pitch bar playing in goals.Jaem Bakhshi had two first half goals as they led 4-1 at the break following the concession of an own goal by centre back Lotfolloh Jangjou. The impressive captain Sadegh Hassani dictated the tempo of game until he was replaced early in the second half, consequently Iran failed to score in the final 22 minutes once their captain was replaced.

However credit must go to a young German side who frustrated Iran for long periods led by their excellent goalkeeper Rene Heinen. Germany put up a brave display and will be a match for many sides in this tournament not least tomorrow's opponents Northern Ireland.
