USA and Netherlands entered the pitch aiming for a slot in one of the semifinals. The Dutch team had a more defensive posture, trying to explore the counter-attacks. After an individual play, number 11 of the USA scored his first of the three goals in the match, finishing the 1st half by 1-0.

In the first minute of the second half, he scored again, in a very successful free kick. The Netherlands had the chance to reduce the advantage with a penalty kick, but the American goalkeeper made a good save and kept the score with no change. In the very end, Jonah Meyer-Crothers scored once more, finishing the match: 3-0.

The USA are, for the first time, qualified for a semifinal match in an edition of the World Cup.
