U.S.A. - NETHERLANDS

This important match for both teams for the group win in pool C was under great tension. America had the most possession at the beginning while the Netherlands withdrew to their own half. In the 9th minute, the Netherlands intercepted the ball that was immediately played deep and where the completely free Bruno Hoek left the USA keeper with no chance 0-1. The Netherlands had good opportunities to extend the score but only after 3 good chances were missed did the 0-2 fall through Jeroen Saedt. The Netherlands became careless in passing and the USA had more and more possession of the ball. They took the Dutch keeper Damian Schellekens under fire with a few long-range shots and managed to score the 1-2.

Immediately after the break, the USA managed to score the equalizer through a goal by Ben Lindau. It promised to be an exciting match when the Netherlands took the lead again in the 34th minute through a goal by Jeroen Saedt. When the American keeper received a red card and the 2-4 fell from the free kick, the match seemed to be over. Still, USA came back to 3-4 from a penalty caused by Jeroen Schuitert. After another red card from the USA, the Netherlands could calmly play the ball around and further extend the score.
