In this balanced match, which was between 13th and 15th place, Australia had more possession in the first half, but there were few chances to score and the score ended 0-0.

The second half showed the same play at first, but now with more dominance by Japan, who scored their first goal in the 37th minute through Toda Tetsuya.
Australia made changes to try to equalise and did so in the 48th minute, McGrath, William.
